A concerned U.S. citizen writes to President Bush

Dear President Bush,

I was in shock when I read the information printed below.

US to appoint first Muslim UN ambassador
Local and international news reported Friday that the current US ambassador to Iraq, Zalmay Khalilzad, will soon be the first Muslim US ambassador to the UN. Khalilzad, a Sunni Muslim stationed as the Iraqi ambassador since 2005, is expected to replacing outgoing UN ambassador John Bolton - in the coming days. Born in Afghanistan and a graduate of Beirut's American University, Kahlilzad is considered the protégé of US Vice President Dick Cheney, who appointed him to senior positions on the National Security Council and the State Department.

Can this possibly be true? The very religion that wants to destroy Israel and the United States of America is being represented on our National Security Council and the State Department. This is very scary. I really thought the Bush Administration had more wisdom than to allow something like this to happen. Please wake up to the fact that we are like a frog in a pot, slowly being cooked.

God save America!

Bush to shake up his security team

By Ron Hutcheson and Warren P. Strobel
McClatchy Newspapers

WASHINGTON — President Bush is preparing to shake up his national-security team and bring new faces to the United Nations, the military, the State Department and the U.S. embassy in Iraq, administration officials said Thursday.

. . . Bush is also expected to name a replacement for Army Gen. George Casey, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, and to appoint the U.S. ambassador to Iraq, Zalmay Khalilzad, to be the U.S. representative at the United Nations. Khalilzad's likely replacement in Baghdad is Ryan Crocker, a Mideast expert who is the ambassador to Pakistan. . . .

. . . Khalilzad, a highly regarded diplomat, became a top prospect for the U.N. job when former Ambassador John Bolton resigned in December. Bolton had been appointed to the post when Congress was in recess, and he stepped down when it became clear that he couldn't win Senate confirmation.

Khalilzad, the Bush administration's highest-ranking Muslim, reportedly has been eager to leave Baghdad for months. He is known as a consummate back-room deal maker, having played key roles in helping form the first post-Taliban government in Afghanistan and trying to reconcile Sunni Muslim, Shiite and Kurdish politicians in Iraq.

But his efforts to reach out to Iraq's Sunnis, who launched an insurgency after the fall of the late President Saddam Hussein, made Khalilzad some enemies in Washington, particularly in Vice President Dick Cheney's office, a State Department official said. . . .
