ANTI-PREDATOR WEB BILL KILLED
AB 841 would have allowed MySpace to use a California sex offender database to keep predators off its Internet virtual community. This bill would have required registered sex offenders to report their e-mail and Internet identities to the state, which would make that information available to MySpace and other social networking Web site.

Assemblyman Anthony Portantino, of La Canada claimed his bill would have helped protect children from sexual predators. Opponents argued the state would infringe on free-speech. We think this would have been a good law.

SPANKING BILL REJECTED
We are glad to report that the California legislation proposing to ban parental spanking died with a whimper this week. The author watered her bill down but Sally Lieber of Mountain View could not attract votes. There was massive opposition against AB 755. Apparently the legislators felt the massive opposition from you the voters was too much!

Thanks for your part in a better California!
